News: October 09, 2005 - October 15, 2005

Out of shape

Well, it has been two weeks now since I've been able to resume work on Miki's Marimba Spiritual which I am to perform late November. We have been and are still waiting for a cord replacement since the one broke recently. Another percussion major and I used some clothes line as an ad hoc replacement yesterday. Finally today I was able to catch up. I was a bit worried that I would have to relearn some of the things I had spent hours working on previously. Although, to my consolation, I was able to pick up most things pretty quickly and was able to dive into some new material with the end nearer in sight. The strange thing was though, the loss of two weeks didn't necessarily make me very rusty in playing the part. More noticabley was that when I played through the second section of the piece once I became somewhat fatigued. Mind you, this is a very energetic piece of music. But, I haven't practiced it in two weeks and was strangely enough, out of shape to place the piece :-p I spent a good four hours today practicing to catch up and it was rather intense (well the piece is very intense anyway). I didn't have much after that, but I was good and tired when I returned home. Now I get to look forward to tomorrow. Today was spent practicing for the most part, tomorrow will be spent writing papers. yay! It's a bit crazy with all that's on my plate, but I like to be busy. I wouldn't have it any other way. :)
