Education
When people ask me where I learned the things I know about computers, I always tell them that for the most part what I know is what I've been able to learn through personal experience and individual study, not formal education. I've used computers much of my life to an advanced extent. Through much experimenting (and of course, plenty of mistakes), I've learned many things about the technical issues surrounding computer usage, maintenance, and repair. I have also read online tutorials available on topics ranging from web development to server administration to me expand my knowledge about how things work and how to do what I want to do with the technology available to me. Individual study through reading online documents and tutorials has proven to be a great resource for me in learning new things about different areas of technology.
With regards to formal education, I am a mere three credits shy of a computer science minor at Messiah College where I spent my first two years as a combined Computer Science and Music Performance major. While there I completed the following courses relevant to technology:
- Programming I (Javascript)
- Programming II (Java)
- First Year Computer Science Seminar
- Database Concepts
- Database Applications
Notable things I learned while studying computer science in college were aspects of object oriented programming, application development, and database design.
