El Salvador 2004 Missions Trip
Quote of the Day
I got this idea when Jesse Platts contributed the first quote during the night we stayed in Baltimore. Upon hearing it, I decided to write it down and date it. From that point on, I started recording specific quotes of interest that different team members made during the days on the trip.
I'm trying to look up Palms 119:153-60
The night before we flew from Baltimore we stayed in a motel, and nearly no one slept that night. We had some bible-based discussions that night, and Jesse said this as he was paging through his Bible meaning to say "Psalms" instead of "Palms"
What do you want me to do, bow at your feet? Remember, I'm the princess here!
There's an inside joke where some of the youth call Jenna a princess. Here she finally admitted to it.
Ronda: Ok we need someone to be a pregnant womam.
* Jed raises his hand
This was during our training day when we were working on different dramas. We were picking out parts for one of the skits and Jed made this facetious motion.
Denny: Child abuse is a big problem here.
Rita: (holding up some food) This is good!
We were having dinner and I was telling Rita about the problems of child abuse in El Salvador. She responded by telling me how good the food was. It was a late night.
You see this finger? This is my birth finger. I was born with this finger.
Jesse: What's your name again?
Christina: Christina
Jesse: So you were the one in the shower last night
* silent pause *
Jesse: No, no. I didn't mean in the shower with her!
Use lo cabeza?
Jesse was attempting to use some Spanish but inadvertandly said "Do I use my head?" in Spanish
Simma!
I said this during dinner one night. The discussion was getting a bit crazy and I reacted with this line, an allusion to a Saturday Night Live sketch based on the line "Simmer down now!"
Yeah, really?
Rebecca was one of the nationals who worked with us, and she only speaks Spanish. She joined our table one night, and we were chatting in English. She looked around, and responded with this line.
I don't know what she said, but I just got poned
One of the nationals said something to Johnathon one night, and he made this comment that he'd just been pwned
Josh: MK?
Chris: Yeah, messed up kid. And a PK is a punk kid.
Chris is one of the missionaries in El Salvador who worked with the construction team. "PK" is a commonly used term to refer to a preacher's kid; we had one on our team. "MK" in this case was referring to a missionary's kid. I think I like the creative descriptions though.
Coffe, NO!
Coffee is the name of a stray dog that wandered around the church where we stayed. Let's just say he was very friendly.
Troublemaker is my middle name
During last year's trip to Trinidad, I made a little joke about Jessica being a troublemaker. Actually, she's always (well, usually) very quiet. Well, this particular afternoon she was a bit energetic and finally admitted to her troublesome tendencies.
I could really go for some pork chops right about now
Tiff, the vegetarian on our team made this surprising comment after eating two pepperoni's at Pizza Hut
